Annual Picnic to Quassy Amusement Park was held on July 16, 2016
The New York Yee Fong Toy Association held its annual picnic at Quassy Amusement Park and Water Park in Middlebury, CT on July 16, 2016. For the last few years, finding the right venue has been difficult due to rising cost, but for 100 of us, we were determined to have a day of fun. The day started out perfect, the weather was great and the participants arrived on time to be greeted by our President Jin Shao 主席錦韶, Grand Advisor Gong Sum 總顧問鋼深, English Secretaries Christine and Daniel 英文書記小薇,海鷹 , Treasurer 財政乾源 and other staff members as well as I 美東總長宏基, as we boarded our two chartered buses. Then as we were about to embark on our journey, two police officers rushed to issue us two summons for illegal parking costing $230, even though we had permits. We then ran into some unforeseen traffic; what should have taken 90 minutes took almost three hours. But being Yees and New Yorkers, we will overcome.
As we arrived at the park, I was pleasantly surprised at what they have done to improve the park since our last visited over ten years ago. There is now a new colorful water park, additional new thrill rides like the new Reverse Time ride along with a new management team determined to make sure families are welcome. I was relieved that our group had the same impression and was going to have an enjoyable day. To my amazement, no one objected to staying an additional hour. This year, Gong and I recruited another young-at-heart Daniel to join us for some fun. We were no match to keep up with the young folks so we did the next best thing, unlimited bumper cars, boat rides on Lake Quassapaug, riding the 50-foot grand carousel and ice cream. Other folks enjoyed the magic show, leisure walks, paddle boats and waterfront views. I am so grateful to see that once a year everyone was young at heart again.
